WTF AudioVox?

Filed under: Satellite Radio by Bill on August 17th, 2008.

So I got AudioVox’s ExpressR back in April for my birthday, as I am in the car for about 2.5 hours a day. I chose it over the ExpressRC even though that one was newer and fancier (color screen) as the ExpressR has 30 presets, versus something like 10 for the RC.

Anyhow, this thing has been a complete pain in the ass! About 2.5 months after I got it, suddenly I could no longer get any audio output. I tried everything, but nothing would resolve it. So I called AudioVox’s tech support, and spoke to one of their techs. He agreed I needed a replacement, and promised that a shipping label would be emailed over to me. I waited about a week, it never came. I called again, and got the same response - sorry, we’ll resend it, etc. STILL - nothing. Finally after another week or so I called again, and this time I got it.

End of story, right? No - wrong. They sent me a new unit about 2 to 3 weeks after I’d sent the old one in. So everything’s great, right?

Wrong. I haven’t even reprogrammed this POS and again the audio output has died! Now I don’t know if it’s the unit itself that’s crapping out the audio, the car dock, or the home dock, but all three of them are made by AudioVox. Whatever component is screwing up doesn’t matter - it’s all on AudioVox. What the hell??!?!

There, I feel better.

Experimental drug activates body’s own defences to fight cancer

Filed under: Health Care by Bill on August 14th, 2008.

Four of 38 patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have seen the disease disappear following treatment, while five others saw reductions of 50 per cent in their tumours.

While the trials were only carried out on patients with blood cancer, it is hoped the methods can be adapted to tackle other cancers.

The drug, which could prove cheaper than other similar therapies, works by activating the body’s own defences to attack the cancer.

The results have been described as an “exciting” and “significant” development in the use of immunotherapy, the process of using the body’s own immune system to fight disease.

Let’s stop kidding ourselves…

Filed under: Countries that suck by Bill on August 10th, 2008.

I know America is far from perfect.  In fact, there’s so much wrong with it that it drives me nuts.  But - I also know that there are a lot of countries that are deliberately making things worse, and in many cases they’d like to see us all in poverty or dead.  Conversely, those countries can drop dead, and they’re not welcome here.

I’m not going to flatter myself here and say that anything I do here is going to amount to a hill of beans for any of these countries.  But I don’t believe that opening the doors to information has improved the results of what we’ve gotten from these countries, so as a result I’m slamming the door shut on this site immediately for the following countries:

  1. Afghanistan - for continuing to be a pain in the ass.
  2. Anonymous Proxies - if you don’t want to be seen, I don’t think I want to see you either.
  3. Bahrain - Systematic economic terrorism.
  4. China - If you can’t figure this one out, let me know who you are and I’ll block you for being an IDIOT.
  5. Cuba - Allies of Russia this close to us could be cleared out by noon, with Pina Coladas served by 2pm.
  6. Hong Kong - Sorry, HK.  You’re part of China now.
  7. Iran - Terrorism supporters, holocaust deniers.
  8. Iraq - They may theoretically be a US ally, but they can still kiss my ass.
  9. Jordan - Systematic economic terrorism.
  10. Kuwait - Systematic economic terrorism.
  11. North Korea - Helping to spread nuclear technology while their citizens starve.
  12. Lebanon - Being a conduit to terrorism and an aide to Iran.
  13. Liberia - For loose ship registry regulations and a sham government.
  14. Libya - Qadhafi is one thing that comes to mind.
  15. Morocco - Cornerstone of the Madrid bombings.  Have a nice day.
  16. Myanmar - Nearly the only people there that can use an internet connection are afiliated with a government that should be tried for crimes against humanity.
  17. Nigeria - SPAM.
  18. Oman - Systematic economic terrorism.
  19. Pakistan - A half-assed terrorism effort, and the partial shielding of some Taliban.
  20. Palestinian Territory - Killing your neighbors randomly doesn’t score points here, especially when done in the name of religion.
  21. Paraguay - Has been a shelter for Nazis
  22. Qatar - Systematic economic terrorism.
  23. Russian Federation - If you think the Cold War isn’t enjoying a comeback, you’re not paying attention to the Russians, who have said just such a thing is happening.  So - Russia can *)# off.
  24. Saudi Arabia - 15 of 19 9/11 hijackers carried Saudi passports.  Oh - and for systematic economic terrorism.
  25. Somalia - If you have time to surf in Somalia, you should stop farting around and start to rebuild the country.
  26. Sudan - Genocide.
  27. Syria - terrorist ties
  28. Turkey - Being difficult when Iraq could have been more easily managed.
  29. Ukraine - Still Russia.
  30. United Arab Emirates - Systematic economic terrorism.
  31. Venezuela - Chavez is an annoyance and will only get worse when Russia starts meddling more.
  32. Yemen - Systematic economic terrorism.  And for the USS Cole.

I think that’ll do it for now!

Chinese government maintaining status quo, still scumbag thugs. Boycott the Olympics!

Filed under: Olympics by Bill on August 7th, 2008.

A charter airplane carrying the White House press corps was detained for nearly three hours Friday at Beijing’s international airport not long after President Bush arrived to attend the Olympic Games.

White House officials would say only there were “logistical problems” getting clearance to unload the aircraft. The flight crew was told the Chinese were insisting that all luggage be inspected.

I’m sure there’s no bugging going on here, is there?

The IOC has been a joke for a long time, and they’ve achieved in making these Olympics a joke. Boycott these games for the farce they are, and for the murderers that they reward.

Lamborghini flown 6,500 miles for oil change

Filed under: People that suck by Bill on July 30th, 2008.

A rich Arab sent his Lamborghini on a 6,500-mile round trip to Britain for a service.

The £190,000 supercar was put on a scheduled flight from Qatar to Heathrow – then flown BACK after the oil check.

Talk about a waste - one can only hope that this guy’s car is hit with a meteor.  I’m not the biggest environmentalist, but people like this should be forced to spend a year in a place like Gaza.
