Can Mozilla screw up Firefox more?

It’s a commonly-held UI principle that if you want to determine the version number of an app, you could go the Help menu, and then click on “About”. This is useful information for techs that may be trying to troubleshoot a problem, and it is easy to guide a person to it over the phone.

So why is Firefox taking that away?

Simple – they’re trying to deflect criticism on the constant version number changes. Firefox has become a browser that has gone from being a work in progress to being a constant beta – and there is a difference.

Just another reason to not advocate for this app to be adopted in our company. As if the third-party addons weren’t enough already…

Give more than a little, get a little.

So if you’ve bought one of three different processors from Intel you can upgrade it. Sounds good, right? Don’t get too excited – because rather than demonstrate that they’re willing to throw a bone to regular customers, they’re going to charge you to upgrade it – and all at a price/performance ratio that is pretty subpar.

This reminds me of the days when you could buy a US Robotics modem (I think they were 33.6 baud at the time) and upgrade it to 56k down the line. In fact, this is virtually the same. It was stupid then and it is stupid now – the performance difference was negligible, and the cost was excessive (about $50). In the end I gained virtually no boost in speed, but I was $50 shorter.

It’s odd – about 15 years ago we had this line of thinking, and it was swept away as we evolved into a better industry. Suddenly we moved to the DSL/cable age and providers stopped pulling this crap. Intel should learn from the past on this one.

No room to criticize, China…

Beijing’s latest comments rounded on Thursday’s 500-point drop in the Dow Jones industrial index, noting that it had exposed “the plight of western economies and their deep structural defects.”

You know what, China?  You print money just like we do, but you bullshit when it comes to your inflation rate, and you treat your citizens like animals.  Do we have buildings just standing around as testaments to a construction boom that has no customers – and do we KEEP building?

No – we smartened up.  But you idiots keep building even after you see what has happened here…

As for deep structural defects, I’d point out that China is only prospering because they’ve been stealing everyone else’s intellectual property and creating slave-labor-powered ripoffs of anything and everything.

If you think things are bad now, just wait until the Renminbi is exposed to be the fraud that it always has been.

In other words, fuck you China.

The name is Bonds, Safe Bonds.

There’s no reason at the moment to risk money to the whims of some ADD-addled traders, so why not head to bonds?  Sure, you’re not going to make money to speak of – but you’re not going to get buried either.
